Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival Could Use A Kickstart

@LadiesofHipHop Festival has launched its first KickStarter Campaign for the annual festival in New York City.

Since 2004, this festival has put the focus on women and their relationship with Hip-Hop culture. Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival  (LofHHF) exists to develop and provide women with positive roles that are present and represented within the Hip-Hop culture. Traditionally, men have dominated all facets of the hip-hop scene, but Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival changes this tradition and puts women center-stage for the entire event. The festival is an event produced by women, for women. Each year an elite group of female artists from around the world are selected to exhibit work, teach, and perform as part of the festival. The artists have extensive experience and understanding of the Hip-Hop culture and are qualified to pass on the traditions of Hip-Hop culture with accuracy and authenticity. Through education, performance and community exchanges this annual Hip-Hop festival puts the focus on women and their relationship with Hip-Hop culture.

LofHHF is a driving force for women in hip-hop culture. The festival has created an international impact on girls and women in hip-hop culture having by producing events for women and girls to create and present their own work. LofHHF offers workshops, performance opportunities, international artist exchanges and public talks. LofHHF trains, educates, and creates the next generation of women in the Hip-Hop dance community.

In March of 2011, After 7 years in existence, Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival went to Europe! In Partnership with Urban Arts & Culture of Austria, and the KosmosTheater, LofHHF debuted internationally in Vienna, Austria to three evenings of sold out shows, a jam packed panel discussion, and great workshops. It was a tremendous experience for the eight US instructors and performers, some traveling abroad for the first time ever. In the 10 days in Vienna LofHHF director, Michele Byrd-McPhee and dancers created a collaborative piece with Austrian artists. It was overwhelming success!

Continuing to grow their community, LofHHF now has a training program, Ladies of Hip-Hop Training Crew Intensive. This program is a  3-month training intensive spent doing multi-discipline training in Hip-Hop styles, funk styles, and other dance styles that influence the culture like dancehall, African, Salsa, and more… This training program will be the springboard for many female Hip-Hop dancers and choreographers.

They are asking for your support for the annual festival to continue the work they do. Every pledge counts! Visit the KickStarter Campaign and pledge today:
